Galaxy and the Social Semantic Desktop

While I was in Europe earlier this year on a lab tour for alphaWorks, I met the creators of ‘Galaxy’ at the IBM Dublin Software Lab. Galaxy is a new platform for combining social computing, semantic processing, and activity-centered computing.

I was most interested in their collaboration in NEPOMUK: the social semantics desktop, which is essentially an open source, standards-based framework that extends the personal desktop into a collaboration environment for information sharing and management. If you’re learning more about semantics, or building on Web 2.0 investments, its a good resource.
